Satisfy your dreams of owning one bike to rule it all, and get out and crush some serious trail with the Thunderbolt 790 MSL BC Edition. Rocky Mountain amped-up this version for rowdy Britsh Columbia-style action with wider bars, bigger tires, stiffer wheels, and premium suspension so you can rail flowy singletrack and pop lips with ease. Custom tuning options provided by Rocky Mountain's Ride-9 adjustable suspension system gives you composure and efficiency on all types of trails, and a RockShox Pike RCT3 fork paired with a Monarch Debonair RT3 shock lays chunky rock gardens to waste. A Shimano XTR/XT drivetrain puts lightning-fast shifting at your fingertips, and Shimano XT Ice-Tech hydraulic brakes leave nothing to be desired with pinpoint performance. Beefy Maxxis tires and a set of Stan's ZTR Arch wheels keep you rolling fast and instill confidence through high-speed berms. Finally, 800mm-wide Race Face SixC carbon bars help with front-end control, and a RockShox Reverb Stealth dropper seatpost all but disappears so you can get low on hair-raising descents. Straddle this Thunderbolt and become the king of your mountain.
Rocky Mountain's Smoothlink suspension places the rear chainstay pivot above the rear axle, keeping the chain torque line parallel to the linkage. The benefit? The rear suspension is always active, bob-free, and delivers a wonderful bottomless feel, no matter what gear you're in.
Rocky Mountain's Ride-9 system enables you to customize the geometry and rear suspension rate with two interlocking inserts that allow for nine different positions.
By moving the shock forward, the geometry slackens and the suspension rate becomes more progressive, giving a nice ramp up for bottomless-feeling travel (image above, dotted line). It’s ideal for aggressive downhill riding. When you move the shock backwards, the geometry becomes quicker and the suspension more supple (blue line), which is great for ripping around technical singletrack and increasing climbing traction.
When you move the shock upwards (solid black) it allows lighter riders to run shocks at higher pressures, and moving the shock downwards (red line) allows a heavier rider to run lower shock pressures. So no matter what you weigh, this allows you to run the rear shock in the sweet spot with correct sag for smooth, consistent suspension.
|Rocky Mountain's Smoothwall Carbon construction creates a frame that is just as perfect on the inside as the outside. Rocky Mountain uses an inner mold to reduce excess resin, fibers and filler to create a super high fiber-to resin ratio. The result is an incredibly lightweight, stiff and responsive ride with incredible strength.|
