Pre-Order your 2021 or 2022 Bicycle at The Bike Shop
Information & FAQ's
Bike Shortages
Since the initial COVID-19 lockdowns began across Canada in March of 2020 the biking industry has seen an enormous increase in the popularity of cycling from entry level consumers to long term cyclists. The lockdowns to the fitness industry & indoor gatherings pushed more and more people to find ways to be active outdoors which has lead to an enormous boom in the sales of bicycles.
This boom in popularity combined with labour force lockdowns and increased social distancing measures in manufacturing plants in Eastern countries, where many of the manufacturing plants are located, has led to an imbalance in supply and demand. Couple this with a backlog of cargo containers to get bicycles across the world to North American marketplaces and more social distancing measures at shipyards and docks and we have delays piled on top of delays that have made for a difficult and often moving target to manage.
Providing Transparency
At The Bike Shop we have 1,000s of bikes coming from all of our various suppliers like Trek, Specialized, Rocky Mountain, Giant, Yeti Bicycles, Electra & more. We have done our best to be transparent about which bikes we have coming and have made these available prior to their arrival in our stores so that our customers can ensure they get the bike they want or an alternative should their make/model already be sold out for 2021.
Bikes Available for Pre-Order
We have seen an unprecedented volume of inquires and orders for entry level bikes up to $1,500 and have sold through the vast majority of the 2021 models that we have coming in these price points. We have temporarily removed bikes in these price categories from our pre-order items but do still have some coming. The decision to do this was hard but we felt necessary as we did not want to oversell bikes if a supplier was not able to fulfill our complete back-orders with them for any particular model.
There are still some bikes left so do not hesitate to reach out to weborders@thebikeshop.com or call any of our retail stores to inquire about a particular make/model/size of bike you may be interested in. If we are sold out there may be other options that we can help assist you with! We hope to have some of these bikes available in our stores this summer so check our social media handles as well as our website frequently for product updates. We anticipate when these arrive they will not be around for long.
2022 Bikes
We will be rolling out 2022 bikes for pre-order shortly. 2022 pre-order bikes will be released based on when we anticipate to see them in the stores approximately 60-90 days prior to their arrival. Some bikes may release earlier than this but will be dependent on anticipated demand and any supplier embargos for new product launches.
How to Pre-Order a Bike
All pre-orders will require a fully-refundable 20% deposit. For this reason we have turned the cart off on our website for these items and ask that you email weborders@thebikeshop.com or call any of our retails stores and our staff will be happy to assist you with getting a pre-order set up.
Thank you for shopping with The Bike Shop, we look forward to help you get out on your dream bike
Pre-Order FAQ's
Unfortunately we do not have 100% control over the arrival dates of bicycles and as mentioned there are many mitigating factors that can slow or delay the arrival of any make, model, colour or size of bicycle.
We are happy to provide the timelines that we have been given from the supplier of the bicycle you wish to order but can not guarantee that it will arrive on time.
Unfortunately The Bike Shop is not in control of many of the factors that can delay the arrival of your pre-ordered bicycle. Delays can happen for many reasons including, but not limited to the following:
- COVID-19 lockdowns in factories and/or increased social distancing and less shifts/staff per shift working at any time.
- Shipping delays and backlogs at shipyards, docks or ground freight providers due to overwhelming boom in transportation demands.
Yes, 100% of the deposit is refundable at any time including up to the time of pick up should the bicycle be the wrong size or just not quite what you expected and/or wanted.
Our standard return policy of 30 days on un-used, new condition bikes is in effect on all pre-order bicycles.
We have seen several price increases on bicycles after suppliers have released price lists for upcoming model year bicycles and in these cases you will be contacted and informed of the price increase.
Yes, this is a real possibility. However, The Bike Shop is working hard to manage the volume of pre-orders and has taken into consideration that some bikes that we have coming may be cancelled. This is one of the reasons we have suspended pre-order sales on bikes priced at $1500 and under.
If your make/model of bicycle has been oversold or cancelled by a supplier we will contact you and help find another comparable bicycle for you or provide a full refund.
Yes! You will be contacted once the bike has arrived, been assembled and is ready for pick up.
On average bicycles are assembled and ready for pick up within 48-72 hours of arrival in our stores.
